President's Corner

Consider joining some of your New York Chapter associates for an early celebration of Spring in mid-April, at the annual Convention, which will be held in Tulsa, OK this year.  A number of us have already made plans to make this journey for what promises to be a very interesting and entertaining experience under the Westernmost shade tree in the Eastern hardwood forest.  As described in greater detail in the Winter Journal, this event will feature some wonderful horticultural venues, where determination, great effort and the development of heat tolerant rhododendron, have combined to extend the reach of our favorite genus.

Equally enticing are the cultural opportunities incorporated within the Convention schedule, which are certain to expand our knowledge and appreciation of this region's fascinating history.  Finally, we will all return with renewed appreciation for the relatively temperate environment in which we garden, and the great lengths to which our friends in the Ozark Chapter are willing to go to share in the enjoyment of growing rhododendron and azaleas. Having been a frequent visitor to the fair City of Tulsa in an earlier capacity of corporate management, I can assure all that you will be warmly welcomed by your hosts.  Come join the fun!

New York Chapter Brunch – Please Join Us!

Based on our good experience last year, arrangements have been made to hold our March Membership meeting, Sunday, March 16, 2008 at the Milleridge Inn, 585 North Broadway, Jericho, NY, from 12:30 PM – 3:30 PM.  We will again enjoy a formal sit down brunch, at a cost of $35.00 per person, which will include an appetizer, salad, choice of one of three entrees, dessert, coffee, tea and unlimited Bloody Mary’s, mimosas and assorted juices.  Easy access by elevator is available to the Robert Williams room.  Please send your check, payable to “ARS – New York Chapter”, before March 6th to Marianne Feller, 88 Old Field Road, Old Field, NY 11733.

Once again, five gift certificates in the amount of $25.00 each will be awarded to five lucky brunch attendees to be redeemed at the Chapter Plant Sale.  So, come out and join us for a St. Patrick’s Day celebration.

In the unlikely event that anyone can present a rhododendron in bloom at this early date, a “special green prize” will be awarded.  No forcing permitted!
